TiECon Canada is TiE's flagship conference for entrepreneurs, SMEs, industry veterans, investors, and other members of the Canadian business community. Organized in partnership with Canadian sister chapters in Toronto and Vancouver, and global TiE chapters in Silicon Valley and Boston, TiECon Canada is the largest event of its kind in the region. It features industry leaders, technology gurus and investors from different sectors and all spheres of business. It will build directly on the success of the past TiECon Canada conferences that we held in Ottawa in years 2013, 2014, and 2015, each of which assembled more than 300 participants, and featured more than 50 speakers, dozens of investors, and over 25 partners.

Bharat has more 24 years of experience in collaborative research and development program management, business management and software development. As the Country Manager for India and Brazil at ISTPCanada, he was accountable for the management of the Canada-India and Canada-Brazil collaborative R&D funds. Prior to joining ISTPCanada, he was a Business Development Manager for Ottawa at the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE).
Rick is a partner of Thorington Corporation. Started in 1996, Thorington specializes in new company formation, co-founding new technology companies at the Seed Stage and staying with them through to the Startup Stage. As a founder in newly established companies, Thorington strengthens early business fundamentals, particularly in the areas of attracting venture capital, business planning, human resource recruiting, initial management, and financing assistance. Since 1996, he has supported 13 startups, nine of which were VC-backed, five from the point of founding.
Jasvinder has worked for both international and entrepreneurial companies (he has assisted over a dozen start-ups as a consultant) in advanced technologies over the last 25 years. His last venture, RocketOwl Inc., is an Ottawa based company that produces leading edge games for learning using social and mobile networks.
Manu is an Engineer by background, Technology Entrepreneur by choice, and Community Activist at heart. He has spent the last 15 years of his life building unique technology solutions, supporting young entrepreneurs, facilitating innovation relationships and developing niche talent advancement programs. Manu has a strong strategic interest in creating opportunities to empower individuals, organizations and communities to connect, communicate, collaborate and co-create.
Vineet is currently a Chief Operating Officer at Cistel Technology. Cistel provides a wide range of IT services and employs over 170 employees and associates in Canada and the US. Vineet is a Mechanical Engineer by training, but has spent last 23 years in the Information Technology space. At Nortel, Vineet worked in various roles as an individual contributor and as senior management and won several recognitions, including top-talent. Vineet joined Cistel as Vice President in 2001 with an entrepreneurial hat. The key guiding principles Vineet has adopted in his approach include wealth creation via steady sustainable growth, long-term stability of the business, and profitability.
Parm is a serial technology entrepreneur and has guided the growth and development of numerous start-up companies. He is currently the Managing Partner of the Gill Group, where he acts as a strategic advisor, mentor, investor, and developer of intellectual property portfolios for startups! He currently holds four patents - with numerous other patent applications in process, in various international jurisdictions. Parm is actively involved with the Angel Investment community as a Board Member and the Executive Director of the Capital Angel Network and Organizer of the Ottawa Venture Forum.
Heruka is currently a Senior Consultant in KPMGn's Assurance practice. He's very active in the local community and currently sits on the Executive team at Mindtrust, Ottawa's premier leadership development program for University students, and Product Hunt Ottawa, a hub that brings together a community of entrepreneurs, makers, and product hunters. He is also a member of the World Economic Forums' Global Shapers community. Having been a former delegate, Heruka is proud to represent One Young World as a Canadian Ambassador and is currently a member of the Local Organizing Committee for One Young World 2016 that is taking place in September in Ottawa, Canada.
Tuhin sits on the TiECon Canada Exec Committee since its inception in 2013. He is a leader, skilled networker, and a community giver. Having managed multiple Govt. R&D funds, micro-financing initiatives and currently overseeing global marketing operations for D-TA Systems; he is well positioned to contribute to the committee. Tuhin leads and sits on multiple non-profit boards and he is currently developing a certification program with Carleton in the defense sector.
Mitul is pursuing his B.Eng in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering with a minor in business at Carleton University. He is a Business development specialist with the Lead to Win Program at the Carleton University Incubator, where his role allows him to connect with various stakeholders forming key partnerships to help grow various start-up businesses. Previously, he served as the President of a student-run non-profit at Carleton University leading it to its most successful year to date. Mitul also sits on the Student Advisory Board at the co-op and Career office at Carleton and he sits on the membership advisory committee of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE).
Mr. Rainer N Paduch is a partner of Eigentum Enerprises. He was Chief Executive Office at Granite Networks inc. Mr. Paduch was a Managing Angel at Ottawa Angel Alliance.
He is the Co-Founder at Band of Scoundrels. Mr. Paduch has 35 years of in depth business management and team building experience as well as expertise in software design, telecommunications, and data networking. Previously, he was a Venture Partner and Vice President at Novacap investments Inc. Prior to that, Mr. Paduch was a Co-Founder at Coventus Inc. He was also the Founder at iSTAR internet Inc. He successfully led iSTAR from startup to rapid growth and through the initial public offering.
Sonya is a communications executive with more than 15 years of experience in achieving business results through the delivery of integrated communications strategies for private, public and non-profit organizations. She served as Manager of Communications and Organizational Development for the 10G Organization of Optical Networks with Nortel Networks from 1999 to 2001, and as Director of Marketing Communications for CMC Microsystems from 2001 to 2008. Building on a decade of experience, Sonya launched her own Strategy and Communications company in April 2008.
Sanjeev is a Senior Oracle resource with over twenty (25) years of professional experience in the IT industry. He has an in depth knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Oracle Tools, Standards, Frameworks and Methodologies as a Technical Project Leader, Application/Technical Architect, Database Administrator, and Developer. Sanjeev is the co-founder of TiE-Ottawa (The Indus Entrepreneur), a global network of entrepreneurs and professionals and also the past chair of ICCC-Ottawa (Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce) and past Treasurer of MUKUL Hindi School for children.
Mariam Zohouri is a well-traveled marketing enthusiast, humanist, English nerd and artist. Her experience as a marketing specialist has spanned across the Ottawa region, from building brands for companies in Kanata's vibrant tech hub with CENGN to larger-than-life event planning with Ottawa 2017. Her work has been published in business magazine Kanata Networker and award-winning arts & culture blog apt 613.
Claude Haw, P.Eng, ICD.D is President of Venture Coaches, a private consulting and investment company which he founded in 2000. He has been actively involved with more than 30 technology companies over the past three decades from start-up to acquisition and IPO and has more than 35 years of experience in a variety of technical, general management and venture investing roles in the technology sector.
